AHN myPlate® Deep Well Microplates

AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are an exciting new addition to the AHN myPlate® range of life science laboratory consumables. These new 96 deep well plates complement AHN myPlate® PCR plates by providing a larger sample handling capacity for PCR preparation. Additionally, these new 96 deep well plates unlock a whole new range of possibilities. In this article, we will provide a high-level overview of the various features of the new myPlate® 96 deep well plates with a special emphasis on how the product features may apply to your day-to-day work in the laboratory.

High capacity Deep Well Plates

The new AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates were designed from the ground up to offer a high liquid handling capacity for most of your most demanding applications. These 96 deep well plates are currently offered in 1.2 mL and 2.2 mL variants, which are perfect for most life science processes that require large sample volumes. The 1.2 mL AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates have a total storage capacity of 115.2 mL while the 2.2 mL variants have a maximum capacity of 211.2 mL. The high capacity of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates opens up the possibility of automating processes that would normally require individual AHN myTube® microcentrifuge tubes. To ensure that AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates were automation-ready, we also made some design choices that we will describe below.

ANSI/SLAS compliant 96 Deep Well Plates

To ensure universal compatibility with robotic liquid handling platforms that comply with industry standards, AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates conform to requisite standards. Our manufacturing team, working within the specifications for microplates as defined by the American National Standards Institute and the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS), ensured the dimensions of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are within spec. This means that AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates can be safely used on robotic platforms such as the Beckman Biomek® liquid handling robots and the Hamilton Microlab® STAR among others. By having AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates compliant with industry standards we increased their compatibility across platforms and protocols. In addition to standardizing the product dimensions we also provide flexibility in capacity and design as described below.

Deep Well Plates with flexible choices

One of the greatest features of laboratory consumables such as AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates product is their potential for flexibility – the ability to tweak them for a broad range of usage scenarios. AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are supplied in round-bottom and v-bottom options. Round-bottom AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates make it easier to mix samples efficiently. As such, these deep well plates may be used for sample preparation for procedures such as liquid-chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) among others. V-bottom AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are ideal for protocols requiring the concentration of certain parts of liquid samples. As such, v-bottom AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are the excellent choice for centrifugation processes.

Deep Well plates with no biological contaminants

For use to provide the most usable deep well plates on the market, we ensured that our manufacturing process eliminates the risk of introducing biological contaminants. AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are manufactured in our world-class manufacturing facility that is operated by a 100% human-free automated robotic system to ensure contaminant-free products. The manufacturing facility is compliant with class 100K cleanroom standards and is regularly monitored to ensure compliance with quality standards. All the non-sterile AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates that are manufactured at our facility are guaranteed to be free of DNA (anthropogenic or non-anthropogenic), inhibitors, DNases, RNases, and other common molecular contaminants. To further minimize the risk of contamination, AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates have other extra features to further minimize the risk of contamination and we will describe these below.

Deep Well Plates with contamination reduction features

The wells of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are meticulously laid out in a five-by-eight grid with each well equidistant from neighboring wells. While this level of detail might seem mundane, it is necessary for contamination reduction and prevention on automated liquid handling platforms. In addition to ensuring that the wells of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are meticulously spaced, our product design team also included raised rims at the opening of each well. The raised-rim design of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates provides a subtle and effective barrier that prevents liquid samples from splashing into adjacent wells – producing erroneous results for your experiments. These contamination reduction features of AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are design features that persist in various thermal environments as described below.

Temperature resistant 96 Deep Well Plates

AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are manufactured from high-quality virgin polypropylene, and they feature industry-leading temperature stability. This gives users the flexibility of using the 96 deep well plates for cold storage of samples at temperatures as low as -80°C. AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates remain firm and stable in cold storage without becoming brittle like other polymers. As such, these deep well plates may be used for long-term storage of samples and reagents in low-temperature environments. Additionally, AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates can withstand elevated temperatures of up to 121°C without melting. This makes it convenient for users to sterilize and decontaminate used AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates. Coupled with their excellent thermal features, AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates have superior chemical stability as described below.

Chemically inert Deep Well Plates

The primary material used for constructing AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates also provides these plates with excellent chemical resistance. The superior quality polypropylene used in AHN myPlate® is chemically inert and will not interact with many chemicals that are used in life science experimental protocols. This reduces the risks of failed experiments owing to a reduction in key chemicals in reaction mixes. Additionally, AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates are resistant against the corrosive effects of some mild organic chemicals that are routinely used for life science research. Chemically stable plastic consumables such as the new AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates provide an all-in-one reaction environment – reducing the need for ordering custom plates for the various steps of an experiment.

Indexed Deep Well Plates

The last feature of the new AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plates that we will cover on this page is the intuitive sample locator index. Each AHN myPlate® 96 deep well plate features an easy-to-read alphanumeric grid system for indexing samples. The letters and numbers are embossed onto the walls of the deep well plates using a font that is legible and tactile. By integrating the index right into the polymer, we reduced the risk of the letters or numbers being effaced by physical or chemical means as the deep well plates are used in experiments. The letters are arranged from A-H along the short edge of the deep well plates while the numbers 1-12 define the wells along the long edge. This sample locator system is compatible with the documentation software of many robotic platforms and makes it convenient for users without automated workflows to easily locate samples.
